Hi Everyone,
I am an environmental chemist working in research and assessment of uranium mining in the Northern Territory of Australia for 10 years. I started as a radiochemist using naturally occuring radioisotopes to assess mining impacts. I then moved to a policy-regulator role focussing on environmental risk assessment of uranium mining with a particular bent on setting water quality objectives and assessing risk and performance based on biological effects data; all within a strong stakeholder committee environment. I now work as Manager of Earth and Water group with a registered research business (owned by ERA, who are part of Rio Tinto) whose focus is on research related to the water management practices and planning for closure at the Ranger uranium mine. My areas of interest are therfore predictive modelling, passive treatment systems, monitoring systems, biogeochemistry of uranium and radium and community engagement and regulation.
Cheers
Shelly (aka Michelle in formal situations)
